Light Upon the Trees

The typical light that shines upon the trees

is such that it can blind one who looks straight:

oh please, just once, let it shine bright on me.

The house that shields me from the frigid freeze

is wondrous in its works, except I state

it bars me from what shines upon the trees.

And though I know I’m thankful for the breeze,

of light outside, let me reiterate:

oh please, just once, let it shine bright on me.

For living in confines, you must agree

our lives are thus constrained by that cruel fate

to never feel the light upon the trees.

And knowing me, you know that I won’t flee;

still recently, I’ve been longing for of late

oh please, just once, for it to shine on me.

Thus here I am confiding this in thee

in regards to the sight outside your gate:

The typical light that shines upon the trees,

oh please, just once, let it shine bright on me.
